Breathing too intensely (or mouth breathing) causes the blood vessels in the nose to expand resulting in congestion of the nose. To unblock your nose, simply hold your breath as shown in this clip of Patrick McKeown from Oxygen Advantage. By the way, this same exercise also works for constipation. Hold your breath for as long as you can while sitting on the loo!
