I’ve always enjoyed westerns. Years ago a mini series titled, “Lonesome Dove” hit the TV. I loved it then and I revisited it this weekend. Great acting from Tommy Lee Jones, Robert Duvall and others will keep you glued to the TV. As I watched it again this weekend I thought about the commitment from Woodrow when Guy dies to take him some 3000 miles to be buried. While making the very difficult trip many people asked him why? His simple words over and over again, “Because I said I would”. In today’s world hardley anything is done without pages of documents that have been scoured over by attorneys to protect each person. What used to be done with a handshake or a promise is long gone. What has happened to “my word is my bond”? Take inventory this week in your own life of how many comittments you give to others. Are you completing all of them? Or are you merely making them happy in the moment by saying something you have no intention of doing?
