The Daily "ECHO"

The Daily Echo: “I’m not a Bum, I’m a human being”…. February 6, 2016

Today’s short clip is an interview with a homeless man. It hopefully will make us all more thankful for a home, food, warmth, and many of the things we take for granted. Many times as we travel our daily commutes we cross the path’s of those less fortunate. Do we really know why they have ended up in the condition they are at that time? Do we know the hearts of these men and women? I for one have been guilty of thinking negative thoughts about how they came to their current situation. Years ago a big brother of mine taught me a valuable lesson. While traveling northern Arizona for work we passed by many who would ask for money. On every occasion he would offer that person a meal. Some would take his kindness and as we sat down and talked with the “person” (yes they are human) I saw them as I believe our Savior sees each of us. No different than me or my brother. As valuable and important as anyone. During this time some only wanted money and wouldn’t accept the meal. My brother would ask if they needed diapers, or necessary things for life. If they insisted on money he wouldn’t give it not knowing where it would go. I was surprised thinking many of these people were drunken’s and only wanted money for their habit. Many took him up for the meal and were indeed very hungry and in need of nourishment. As we go through life let us all try a bit harder to heed the these lasting words. “For behold, are we not all beggars? Do we not all depend upon the same Being, even God, for all the substance which we have, for both food and raiment, and for gold, and for silver, and for all the riches which we have of every kind?”..
